Dual Credit Parent Resources

As a parent, you want your child to have the best possible future. And we believe that dual credit is a gateway for you and your child to save money AND get ahead with their studies before graduating high school.

What is Dual Credit?

It's a unique opportunity that allows your child to take courses at San Jacinto College that earn both college and high school credit, all while still in high school.

How it Works

Typically, students take two courses each semester, and by doing this, they can graduate from high school with 24+ hours of college credit. And the best part? Courses taken for dual credit enjoy a 75% discount on tuition and fees. Additional hours can also be earned by taking courses during the summer.
Dual Credit

More Benefits

Credit for high school and college is awarded when students successfully pass the course, making it a win-win situation for both you and your child. Plus, dual credit is widely accepted at public colleges and universities in Texas, with the potential to transfer out-of-state and/or select private universities.

Encourage Success

Encourage your student to follow these easy tips to help them succeed:
  • Our official form of communication is through San Jac email. Students should check their email daily and email their instructor or the dual credit office for assistance.
  • Students should always include their ID number, also known as G#, on any emails they send.
  • Take advantage the College's many resources, such as student support, tutoring, and the library.
  • Read and print the syllabus and calendar to become familiar with the class and important deadlines.
  • Schedule time for studying.
  • Create a study routine of at least three hours per week.

Dual credit vs advance placement

While AP courses can potentially earn college credit or placement, dual credit courses allow eligible high school students to earn BOTH high school and college credit by successfully completing an approved San Jacinto College course. Plus, unlike AP, dual credit classes are taught at San Jacinto College by highly qualified professors, giving your child a truly college-level experience.
