Getting Started

Already applied to San Jacinto College? If you’ve already been admitted, you’ve only got a few more steps before you can jump into coursework in emergency medical services. Follow these steps to get started.
  1. Complete a Background Check

The state of Texas requires all EMS students to provide a criminal background check and drug screen—no older than one year—before they can start classes. Visit our third-party vendor, CastleBranch, to order the package code SQ29 for just $94.00. And don’t forget to submit your results to the EMS department before the semester begins!

  2. Get Immunizations

As with any San Jac program, the emergency medical services program requires that all students keep their immunizations current through the duration of their coursework.

  3. Take a Physical Exam

Being a healthcare worker is as physically demanding as it is mentally demanding. That’s why we require all applicants to pass a program-approved physical before starting classes. Partner with a physician to assess your physicality using our evaluation form.

  4. Purchase Your Textbooks

Our EMS program uses a few foundational textbooks to guide coursework. All EMS students are required to purchase the textbook packages listed in our most updated Information Packet.
