What is Open Books?

open booksOpen Books is an initiative to help students save money on textbooks

In Open Books courses, which use only open educational resources (OER), students can save about 40% of their costs of attending college.  San Jacinto College offers students the opportunity to complete the Associate of Arts or the Associate of Science in General Studies using only Open Books.  Students can also complete the Associate of Arts in Business Transfer using only Open Books.  In two years, a full-time students can save up to $2800 in textbook costs.  All of the Open Books course texts are free and online.  With Open Books, students can have their textbook on the first day of class and can focus on learning rather than the cost of their textbooks.
